Exhaust guru's enter...22re lc header restore.

Got my used super cheap LC header today.

Have a few questions.

PO cut of collector flange. Anyone know what size etc..to have welded on?

Also...it was on an air injection engine. I plan on using LC's block off plate kit as mine is an 87 with no air injection. Correct?

Looks like the plates have pinched off ait tubes on there now.

Lastly...how would you guys clean these up and paint them....I was thinking wire wheel and some kinda high temp paint. Suggestions?

Thanks in advance. I only got $125 in them. Also plan on header stud kit too.

Ok. Called LC today and they are sending me the flange I need to get welded on. While I was at it...a gasket kit...air injection block off plates...and a header stud kit.

Did some research on header paint and such. Im not gonna blow the cash to
get it ceramic coated. I suppose Ill go the vht flameproof paint and figure out a way to cure it. No way wife will let me use stove. Its brand new.

Took a wire cup attachement on an air tool and did some cleaning.

Got some more to do...but should clean up nice.

Finished getting the header totally cleaned up. Took the wire cup and some creative sandpaper techniques. But I got it stripped down. Washed it with some soap and water, then wiped it down with acetone.

I used the vht "flameproof" paint. I did a light coat...then heated it up with a torch. I did 4 coats...heating the header up between coats. I got it hot.
I was able to get the torch pretty close to the header with no ill effects.
I mean smoking hot.

Very tough finish. I think it will hold up decent.
