do i need a replacement pulley?

i pulled the a/c compressor off the engine to get rid of the extra weight, and someone recently told me i should put on a dummy pulley to even out the tension on the crank pulley. Is this really necessary?

No, you don`t need another pulley, don`t listen to that person.

And I'm seriously considering quoting that for the "Dumbest thing someone's told you about cars:" thread.

How hard is it to take the AC compressor off? Do you just replace the belt with one for the same model truck but without AC?

No A/C - No belt. Its just 4 bolts, 1 wire, to remove. How you disconect the a/c lines is up to you.

or does the AC compressor have its own belt and you just get rid of it?

A/C has its own belt, just remove it.

As long as the tension on the other belts was correct, there is no reason to try and "offset" the tension on the other belts. Elsewise, how would Toyota ever offer a truck without AC? just be sure you don't over tighten the belts, and you will be golden.
