Do It Yourself Bedliner

the worst part of my truck by far was the bed. so i looked into a bed liner. after being quoted $400 for linex to spray the bed, I decided to do it my self. I used the Duplicolor Bed liner. I saw the stuff on a show and it looked pretty good to me, plus you cant bet the price. I got a quart for 20, which i used to test with on my tail gate. and a gallon for 70 which finish off the bed.

the best part of it all was that I was able to pray the stuff with my 90 dollar spray gun from lowes. its nothing special of a gun but it worked great with enough pressure.

I had done the tail gate earlier to make sure i liked the stuff first.

you can see the shinny spots.

Pro: -spray-able and roll-able.
-looks great, totally changed the look of the truck.
-Cheap, Cheap Cheap! a total of 90 bucks + 4 hours of work and I still have just under of a half a gallon left over.
-if you scratch it/chip. rough it up and spray over it again

Cons: -not super thick. its not like the pro stuff so wont work well in a work truck.
-the stuff is thicker then paint so its a pain to clean out of the gun.
-if don't take the time to tape off the areas right it will come out looking wack, I spent 2 of the 4 hours just on prep. (taping and sanding)
- I got a little discoloration because i didnt change the nozzel in my gun, so it got a couple shinny spots, I just used some 120 grit and roughed them us a bit and you cant even tell.

all around I love the stuff. already i'm throwing stuff in the bed and no worries. plus it still looks great.

total cost= $90
total time= 4 hours with clean up.

cool, I hope your results are good. Looks like you could have spent some more time on the surface prep though...which is the key to getting this stuff to stick...

i thought so too, but after doing the tail gate, you cant get the stuff off after it dries. I did the whole bed once over with 80 grit sandpaper just to rough up the paint. ( what they suggest). there were some sections along the bed rails near the tape line where i missed sanding (cause i didn't want to sand the paint that would show) and when I pulled the tape up the liner came with it but I sanded the spot down quickly and re-taped and re-shot. good as New!

it was amazing how just a little roughness makes the stuff stick.

you should've used Al's Bed Liner... its a much more thicker product and much stronger. of course its 100 bucks for a gallon, but for 150 you can get a disposable spray gun and the gallon.

Haha, it's a willy's.
And it's 90% toyota anyways.
and if this stuff is thick enough it can distract from my fugly butt welding.
