My previous Truck before getting my 4Runner was a 1994 Ranger 4X4. It came with a plastic bed liner. I hated it!!! It was very slippery when wet, all the cargo moved around, it rattled on the freeway, scuffed up the bed paint. I sold it and bought the rhino lining, it was $450 but it was a very good investment! No more rattling and the cargo doesn't move around! I would, with no doubt recommend the spray in bed liner!!

Though I'm not speaking from experience, I hear Line-X is better than Rhino Liner. Take a look.

I have a Perma-tech spray-on bed liner for more than a year and love it! At the time, Perma-tech was the only vendor I could find that would color match. They didn't match the lunar mist and I ended up with a light gray, but it's better than black! Things don't slide around and you simply hose it off when you need to clean it. Check out the vendor web sites.

plastic

I have a plastic under the rail bedliner and I like it. Its not slippery at all, no rattles either and it looks good(clean), they are also considerably cheaper, mine was only $150 installed, so do the math...is it worth the extra $300, not to me.

Absolutely, positively go with the spray in liner!! Plastic cracks, scratches bed, and gives water and dirt and nice place to hang out and do damage. I have known of people who have taken out plastic bedliners and found holes in their bed where rust had eaten through....go with the spray in.....it is a worthwhile investment, plus (and I am speaking about Inyati) you get a lifetime warranty!

Just my $.02

made a few phone calls to Line-x and Rhino. I was quoted from $350 to $375(over the rails) for Line-x and about $375 to $415(over the rails) for Rhinos.
Its a bit steep than i expected but most likely i will have line-x installed in a week.

i'll bite the bullet and go with Line-x, it'll eventually pay off in the long run.

BAck when I had a bed, i had it rhynolined, and just loved it, now it is a big toy box (no pun intended ) . Another reason for me to go the spray on stuff as anybody knows how the early toy beds were bad, they were built is small pannel sections, which had a tendancy to rust, after a good month of work it was fixed and needed something to help protect it... One thing to remember when you go with the differnt colors, the strongest of all them is the origional form blck, kinda like polly bushings, the black is by far the strongest.

I have seen what a bed looks like underneath a plastic bedliner after just a year and its just a mess. After learning my lesson with that, when I later decided to go with a spray on liner from arma coatings ( http://www.armacoatings.com/ ) . This was a much better choice. I only had it for a year before getting my runner but it looked much better, cargo would not slide around, and the liner didnt fade with the sun. So, personally I would invest in the spray on ..its worth every penny.

Bed liners

I had a bed rust out from under a plastic liner in one of my old trucks, then saw the damage it was doing to my '95.5 Tacoma. Somehow, grit has a way of getting under there and when the truck vibrates, it sands the heck out of the bed. From there, water that gets under there + bare metal and *boom*, rust

With the 2001, I knew I wanted a spray in. I shopped around extensively and found that Rhino was softer and more prone to getting torn, but it keeps stuff from slipping around well. Line-X is a harder compound and wears like iron, but it can be slick for cargo.

I went in between with an "Armacoat" liner. It's hard like the Line-X, but seems to be less slick. The install is top notch and I can't scratch or dent the stuff.

I had a plastic liner in my last truck. It took all of the paint off the bed right to the metal. When I pulled it out one time to clean under it, it was full of wet leaves and pine needles even though it had not rained.

I went with a Speedliner. It had double the strength of most spray in's (almost 4000 lbs per square inch compared to Rhino's 2500 lbs). It also has a "built in" UV protectant. Not something put on with a paint roller for extra money like they do with Rhino. The process is also unique. The liner is sprayed on "hot". The stuff comes out of the gun at over 120 degrees.

It was, however, a little pricy. $475 over the bed rails. It is well worth it. I spent over $35,000 on my truck and I intend to take care of it. I can't afford to have a plastic liner ruin my bed.

when i bought my truck, they gave me a brand new plastic liner with it. but my bed has a lot of scratches from the previous owner, and already has some rust spots. so i am getting a spray in liner. they are going to sand off the rust, repaint it (maybe, i dont remeber) and then spray it with the liner.

so, if you want a plastic one, anybody, ill let it go pretty cheap.

My dad has line-x in his truck and I am impressed with it. It looks real good. IMO its not too slick and its tough as hell. I don't know how true it is but he tells me that its a hot application where rhino liner is a cold application.

I plan to get mine lined as soon as I get the timing chain guides replaced (tomorrow) and find someone to sandblast the bed to get all of the rust out of the bed. Its not bad I just don't want any rust there when they spray the liner down.

Good choice on the sprayed in liner. It looks fantastic. Your "for now" comment is my only concern. I had a sprayed in liner in my last truck (an "00 Nissan crew cab). It was absolutely bullet-proof in terms of durability. The only problem was the nice glossy look only lasted a few months. The Florida sun turned the stuff chalky in no time. I used some stuff called Protectant 2000 (I think) to bring the shiney look back but this made the surface slick. Right now I have a rubber bed mat in there, but, I'd like to get a sprayed in liner if there is a product that hold up looks wise better. Any ideas, anyone?
