My 63" Chevy leaf springs squeak like mad. I have to douse them in silicon lubricant at least one a week so that they dont creak with every tiny movement i make. i think the main culprit is the bushings on both ends. where would i get new bushings and how hard is it to change them out (once the springs are off)? are all bushings the same or do i have to get chevy ones? also, isnt there something i can put between each leaf to prevent bad squeaking? thanks

 

Lots of options, if rubber bushings, pull the bolts and grease with silicone grease or dry graphite lube. Or replace bushings w/ poly bushings (for Chevy springs) and grease bolts w/ regular grease or even install greaseable bolts:

For the leaves, install anti-friction pads on the ends of each leaf (probably need to drill mounting holes), or clean/paint the leaves w/ graphite paint (Slip-Coat brand is what I use) or install some plastic strips (Teflon or UHMW poly) or brush on some graphite grease in between the leaves.

 

Do you consider leaf springs electric?. UNbolt the leafs pull out the bushings. push in the new ones.

i asked so i dont find myself in a situation where im trying to get them out and i cant and then im stuck with my springs out and no practical way to fix them. ill look into those anti-friction pads and such, thanks 4crawler!

 

do you know where i could get some good strips of either nylon, teflon, or UHMW poly to put between the leafs? what is a good thickness also? would a local place like home depot carry any of that or would it have to be special order? thanks

 

Might be able to get that at an industrial supply place, never looked for it myself.
