which tire?
For a daily driven 4runner, not too much off roader, are BFG AT's OR MT's better? Factoring in tread life, noise, price and performance. I'm leaning towards the AT's but if the MT's are superior and pretty close on tread life than I might as well go with the MT's. I like to get the best from the begining. IM in maine so I see everything weather wise. Either way alot of people use BFG'S.

The A/T's are rated for snow, that might be something to consider in Maine. As well, they will be a little quieter on the road and you should get better mileage out of them. However, the M/T's look really good

Honestly Julian, I'd do the AT's. I have the MT's here in Colorado but I have also spent a lot of time in Maine (Portland and Kennebunk). If this is your daily driver and you need to deal with the harsh winters up there - the AT's are better all around. Not gonna lie, my MT's are a lil' sketch on snow and espeially standing water (Hydroplaning). But ask the New England guys what they run on their daily drivers...

I put MT's on my pickup, they are not noisey, but could be better in the snow/ice. They do love the deep snow though. I might get a set of AT's for the winter, and keep my MT's as summer tires.
If you buy MT's get the ones with "km" after the name. They are quieter than the original tires.

I'll pimp the Nittos due to better dollar to performance ratio especially on pavement and they are factory siped and have solid water evacuation channels which the BFGs don't really have. The Nittos handle snow and ice quite well too. BFGs would've cost me another $200 and BFGs aren't $200 better by far.

Unless you plan on hitting a lot of the Maine mud I'd got with A/T's, that's what I had when I lived there on my 2wd Tacoma and I only had 1 issue the whole time I was there(slid on some ice after a nasty ice storm). I lived in Portland and had to commute to the backwoods of Scarborough everyday as well.

I have the MT's and really like the off-road performance, sidewall strength and the over-all look and attitude. Road characteristics are surprisingly quiet and stable (but my previous tires were TrXus MT's so I may have a slightly skewed reference point).
However, the AT's will definitely be better on the ice. Thankfully we don't have a lot days in Calgary with ice due to our frequent chinooks but there have been winter road trips over the mountains where the MT's gave me more than a few scary moments (I never had any issues with hyrdoplaning but just the ice/frozen road situation scared me). I will most likely go with AT's within the next few weeks for this reason as well as the others mentioned in the above replies.

**Edit** Ya know, just thinking about some of the issues I had on the iced up logging roads is giving me the willies. I have called my local tireshop and will be having the AT's installed this afternoon. I'm heading to the mountains tomorrow and with the snow and freezing rain forecast, I will feel a lot better with the AT's (obviously not as good as dedicated winter tires but by all above accounts, much better than the MT's).
