What difference will this make?
I'm getting tired of seeing this view with the rusty pipe looking out of place:

 

Best to head to a muffler shop and just get a new pipe put in place.

You take the chance of having the gasses accumalate right under your floorboards and perhaps entering the cockpit that way.

Always best to have the exhaust gasses pass out the side or rear of the vehicle.

 

Maybe I'll just do a straight pipe straight out of the bumper
Haven't seen that on a runner yet.

 

Or a pipe up the rear and a hole cut in the rear window spoiler and pass out through that

 

remember that exhaust air will enter more to your vehicle if you make the pipe staright and your fond of opening your rear window while driving. Usually thats one of the issue why tail pipes are bent to the side. just an idea...

 

That, and when your towing somthing you would be spewing exaust gasses all over your boat/trailer.

 

i cut mine off, im still planning on putting a pipe on it though, itll exit right before the back tire

 

According to federal US DOT you can't do this if you have a 4runner, the code specs that if you have a passenger vehicle the exhuast must exit at or behind the rear axle or passenger cabin... the fore runner has a passenger cabin that protrudes all teh to the back of the vehicle and therefore cannot have an exit anywhere forward of the axle

a pickup truck can have the exit before the rear tires as the muffler location is already after its passenger compartment (cab) eventhough it is in front of the rear axle

AGAIN, A LOT OF PEOPLE WILL SAY YEAH YOU WONT GET IN TROUBLE AND HELL, PROBABLY START BASHING ON ME, BUT THAT IS WHAT THE LAW STIPULATES, IF YOU CHOOSE TO DISREGARD IT, THAT IS YOUR OWN PROBLEM, BE AWARE THAT A SMOG PLACE CAN VISUALLY FAIL YOU FOR THIS, THIS CAN PREVENT YOU FROM REGISTERING YOUR TRUCK AND PREVENT IT FROM BEING LEGAL TO BE ON ANY ROADWAY.... ALSO IT'S DANGEROUS AS THE EXHUAST GASES CAN ENTER THE CAB MORE EASILY


EDIT: scofco is also in CANADIA but they have a system of laws very similar to US DOT

how about exiting the pipe from a hole in the side bumper. i thought i read a thread on here about that

 

I cut mine off after the muffler and HATE it!
It resonates way too much under the cabin. Ive since found more rattles and squeaks in the rear since cutting it off. The sound resonates off the ground and echoes back up making it very loud and annoying. I liked it for about a week until it just sounded way too annoying in the cab.

I would just replace the side exit pipe and be done with it.

Now it exists in about the same place, but pipe routed above the frame.

 

I thought side exhaust is for departure angle, and most real trucks and SUVs have the pipe come out the side. Side or straight out the back does not make much a difference as far as fumes, and even the 4th Gen is proof of that with a straight out the back pipe and rolling down rear windows.

 

Through the bumper sounds like a great idea. I bet it would look 10 times better too.

I had 90* dumps just under the bed for a while but took them off because of the NoIsE.

 

If you cut the pipe off below the car you can get fumes in the car when you idle... smells bad and probably not too good for your health either...

Just get some headers that come out through your hood

 

Better yet run the pipes over the truck for the deep stream crossings.

no problem, glad i helped, or at least informed you of the situation....

 

I ended up hacking it off just past the axle.
The ugly was getting to be too much. Looks so much better now.

So far I like the sound, and the fumes don't seem to be any more of a problem.

If I don't like it down the road, it's easy to fix.
