Hi folks, just to imform you that I am convinced that ArmorAll caused the dash to split and crack on my 95 4Runner. I have taken great care of the dash from the sun and used Armorall. The dash finally split open. My friend has a 91 and does nothing to it and his dash looks brand new. Now I have to find a used uncracked dash ..sucks...Go to this site:

My 93 did the same thing... but it wasn't my fault, the guy I bought it from used the stuff.

 

I had two, one that cracked and one didn't and I never used Armor All on either one.

My sister used armorall on mine when it was in her posession and now theres a dash crack dead center of the steering wheel. I can't personally attribute it to that though.

 

probably the reasons for the cracks in my 98...

now i use black magic for shine and protection, but if im just cleaning. it comes in a yellow bottle, dont remember the name.

I preach to others to never ever use the stuff.

I use to use it on my tires more than 25 years ago, and the interior.
Stopped using it when I also found out it can put off a gas than can eat your wiring.

All I have used for the past several years now to wipe down the interior is some spray called Tuff Stuff.

I have since switched over to Griot's Interior Cleaner, and it rocks.
Leaves no residue or shine, just cleans.

not just that but Armor All also leaves a greasy residue on the wind shield that is almost impossible to remove as it evaporates in the sun.

 

I have always used it and never had a cracking problem.

 

I just use Meguires every once in a while, but for the most part it's just a damp microfiber cloth.

 

I believe Armor All has silicone in it. It does look good but it seals the surface and keeps it from breathing. The absolute best thing to use is baby oil.

 

i know its illegal but front window tint works better then anything.

Hmmm. I have never heard of this before. But it definitely scares me. I think i will stick to water and a light oil.

That seems weird that they could sell something to protect plastic but it really damages it.

I have used it a few times and have bottles of it, but i guess i should stop. I wonder what causes it, because it is basically just a bottle of conditioner and cleaner.

A lot of vinyl treatments have alcohol in it, which dries out the vinyl. Get some Duragloss, its the best stuff out there, and no alcohol. A dash will crack when it gets really cold, caused by it getting dry and brittle from the sun and drying agents.

 

back in the day, when my brother had a show truck, they used baby oil, the old timers said it wont dry out or crack the dash, he used baby oil for years, and still uses it. you use very little, and is cheaper than any of that other stuff.

 

Since I got my license I was told not to use that stuff. For interior plastic I use baby oil. Have never had an issue with using and last a good while.

 

I only use the armor all rag things I somehow have in my garage, they are almost dried out anyways..

Funny you mention it cracks dashes-in my camry I always used it but not alot and in 5 years nada..

 

My 2000 4Runner owner's manual had a leaflet in it and specifically mentioned Armor All by name and said NEVER to use it on the interior/exterior of the vehicle period.

It is cheap crap IMO.

 

Replaced My Dash Today...100 Bucks From A 94 2wd...i Am Happy Now.

 

if any of you have the full kit from zaino try out their tire shine anywhere you'd use armor all. That suff is awesome. It dries completely (not greasy) and is very low shine, unless you add more layers. Plus it really lasts. I use it on everything i can, including door gaskets.
