Question Cheap Tachs and how to install?

I'm looking for a really cheap tach since my runner isn't the sr5 package, and I'd really enjoy being able to see what rpm I'm shifting at instead of going by feel for a change lol. I know autozone and place like that have those huge ricer tachs for $50-100+, but I really don't like those, and want to spend as little as possible. Wouldn't really care if the gauge was the size of a half dollar so long as it works ya know? Links and such would be greatly appriciated!

And anyhoo, how do you install those? I've read all about swappin instrument clusters and whatnot, but for installing tachs do you just take off your cluster and fish around for the tach wire or...? And does "one size fit all" or do certain tachs only work for certain makes and models?

SR5 Guage cluster swaps right in, nothing new to wire up. Make sure you get one out of a 4 banger if you've got that, or a v6 if you've got that.

If you get an after market one, check out jc whitney, they've got reasonably sized things. I got mine there.

Wiring is pretty simple. You'll likely have 4 wires. One to ground, one to 12 volt ignition power, one to a lighting wire (so it lights up when you turn your lights on), and one to the positive terminal on your coil. There will be a diagram with it if you buy one.

Summit racing has a 3" with adjustable shiftlight and 4/6/8 switch for $35. That's the one I bought for my 5.0 I really like it... I may even put it in my 4 Runner... Just for the hack of it...
