So here are the promised pics of my now black stock wheels.

Here's a little before action, just for the heck of it:

And here's what they look like $12 worth of paint later....

How's about a close-up?

This angles kinda sexy too...

If I had skills I think it might look cool to paint the toyota logo medium gray or silver. I might try one next weekend just to see what it looks like. Then I'll probably spray it over......

Christian, so you clear-coated yours? i thought of that, but I wondered if it would complicate touch ups. Any experience wither way with that?

Thanks for the tips,
Ian

No problems with touch-up. The only drawback is that you add a shine to the wheel with the CC. I hate the shine, but it fades over time. The look you obtained in the picture above is perfect IMO. Surely a CC exists that doesn't add a shine.

I'm almost positve that there are matte clear coats-tho they might be hard to find at a auto-parts store. I actually remember something from high school art class (its alway suprising when I remember anything from then, but thats another store)-I'm pretty sure there was something similar to clear coat that you'd spray over a charcoal or pastel piece when you were done. My brain fails me as to what its called, but I guess my point is you could check out an art store. No idea is it would be as durable as automostive products.

We now complete our rambling broadcast.

Ryan-

My wheels and rear bumper looked like his wheel in that pic, but my front bumper looks screwy - and I am supposed to be the expert around here on rattle can painting

I think conditions play a big role in how it turns out. It was really windy the day I did my front bumper, so that might be part of the problem. It also seemed like the paint was spraying funny out of the tip, which probably has something to do with my "rough" look on my front bumper. Another trick is to place the paint cans in nearly boiling water for a little while - that helps with the spray pattern - but I never did this.

Christian, I'm shocked at your fallibility My front bumper looks not so hot if you're closer than a few feet. I'm hoping the rear will turn out nicer. I might have to try that hot water trick...

I used self etching primer, followed by semi-flatte black (hang one, checking the can) Semi Flate Krylon Rust Tough Enamel (got it at advance auto)

Calrockx had a few pics of some posted a bit ago. Really cool looking IMO.

Cebby had some stock rims done too:

I really like the look of stock rims painted with a beadlock added. Maybe I'll go this route some day.
