Yeah I Would Sand Them Down With Maybe A Scotch Brite Or Something Like That You Want The Paint To Stick. Ill Post Some Pics When I Start Mine.

When I got my new wheels they were chrome, exactly what I wanted.

Got them on there and was like "ugh, that's getto"
Took them back off and had them powder coated black. I think they look sweet now.

Yes, aluminum can be painted. Check the links in Midiwall's post #5 above. They are all stock Toyota rims. I did mine with tires off. I believe Christian did his with tires on, so either way is possible.

After you sand the rust, clean etc. before you spray the primer, apply a rust convertor. I found some stuff at Wal Mart in a spray can, just follow the directions and your paint job should last longer. As they say rust never sleeps.

There was a guy here about 6-8 months back that was playing with Photoshop and blacking out the rims on his _cream_ colored rig. It didn't look too good. They look sharp on a white rig, but there was something funky about seeing them on a cream colored truck.
