When I got my new wheels they were chrome, exactly what I wanted.
Got them on there and was like "ugh, that's getto"
Took them back off and had them powder coated black. I think they look sweet now.

awesome thread. My rims are aluminum, they can still be painted right? I'm sick of spending time polishing them. Plus, black just looks awesome. Is it necessary to take the tires off to paint them, or can I just masking tape around the tire? I'm on 'vacation' right now, but when I get back I wouldn't mind making my rims black since the truck sees more mud than it does car washes. my 4runner's rims were painted flat black by the last owner and I have to say it looks awesome -- even though it's just flat black.

After you sand the rust, clean etc. before you spray the primer, apply a rust convertor. I found some stuff at Wal Mart in a spray can, just follow the directions and your paint job should last longer. As they say rust never sleeps.

There was a guy here about 6-8 months back that was playing with Photoshop and blacking out the rims on his _cream_ colored rig. It didn't look too good. They look sharp on a white rig, but there was something funky about seeing them on a cream colored truck.
