BEWARE Eaton True Trac - bolts fall out
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Just thought I'd drop you folks a little warning.
Here's photos of my Eaton Truetrac which the bolts fell out of in under 10,000 miles destroying my entire rear end - truetrac = garbage, new ring and pinion = garbage, new bearings = garbage, housing = garbage, axles = garbage. Replacement of the third member alone will be in excess of $1500, plus axles, bearings etc.
There are NO safety locking devices on the 8 truetrac bolts!
Eaton refused warranty on this item which was clearly a defect in their assembly process.
Truck has a stock motor and stock tires and is run 100% on the street.
Guess I won’t be running Eaton truegarbage in my Toyota again.
In a conversation with Reider they say that while this is not a common occurance, it does occur with some regularity since there is no retention system.

That is too bad. I have Detroit TrueTracs front and rear, and have never had an issue in 6 years. Of course, they were manufactured by Tractech when I got them. It makes me wonder if there are QC issues with Eaton.

Eaton makes the Posi Limited Slip: http://www.traction.eaton.com/prod5.htm
TracTech makes the Detroit TrueTrac: http://www.tractech.com/Products.htm#slip
I have been on one run where bolts backed out of a TrueTrac, but that was do to the installer not putting them in right and it was repaired at no charge from what I understand. I had no problems with bolts on my old TrueTrac while I ran it.

ok, so it looks like the only things that are garbage is the 3rd and maybe the truetrac. there is no way that R&P or the axleshafts are garbage.
if you insist that they are garbage, i will buy all that garbage for $10 + shipping from you

Napolean, what you need to understand is that the end caps for the truetrac are bolt on, the end caps hold the bearings, therefore the entire carrier was flopping around = damage. Ring damage is visable.
Not to mention all the metal floating around in there.
Housing, carrier (truetrac), R&P and bearings are all ruined. Left side axle splines show also signifigant damage from the wobbling that occured. Right side shows some, but not near as bad.
The entire thing is garbage. I'm going to hang onto it for a bit in case I need evidence, but if you want it and will pay the freight you are welcome to it.
At this point I'm not sure what I'll do to repair my truck.
