Which Batteries Can I use?

I'm thinkin that I have a dead cell in my battery, and before I go buyin a new one, I was wondering if I could use the good one that I have in my K10? The battery in the runner is a 24-60 (forget brand... delco?), and the battery in my K10 is a SuperStart 78-72. So, anyone have any idea if they're copasetic?

I believe that as long as they are of similar size and the connections are the same, you should be able to use it.

The K10 is probably a side post so unless it has top posts too you probably can't use it. Mainly watch your clearance with the hood. If you use a taller battery it could ground out on the hood and cause a fire. Otherwise, if it fits in there and hooks up you can probably use it.

Oh really? Yeah the battery outta my K10 is a side post, and the battery in the runner is a top post. K10 battery fits well in the runner's battery cavity, so I should be good to go? The clearance is good all around.

But the K10's battery is a lot more powerfull, CCA@690 and CA@820 while the runner's battery had a CCA@525 and CA@630. Will this make any difference? Heard someone say that if you get too powerfull of a battery, you can blow all your fuses and alt and whatnot. Any truth to that, or am I good to stick er in the runner? Thanks for the help!

That is totally wrong. The battery will only put out as much current as your system can pull. More cranking amps is good in most cases, will help your starter spin faster, at least if the old battery was limiting it. I run dual 800 CC batteries in my '85. The only difference I notice between having 1 or 2 hooked up is how fast/strong the starter spins. With one battery I can start in gear in 1st gear/low range. With both there, it'll easily start the engine in gear in high range:

You'll need to swap cables if you plan to use a side post battery. Or get an Optima top post and call it good.

Thank yall for the help, really appriciate it. I think I'll be able to use the same cables. I'm the king of jerry-riggin round bout these here parts. If zip-ties, bailing wire, electrical tape, duct tape, and a case of beer caint do it, it just wasn't meant to be done.
