Any way to stop smoking at start up?
Ive got a 5.7 liter chevy engine. If it sits for a few days and then is started there is a little smoke only for a few seconds. I think its the valve guide seals. If there any way to fix them without replacing them? I know there are some oils and additives that claim to help this problem. Anyone tried any of these and how did it work for you? Like i said, the motor runs great it just smokes a little when its started after sitting for a day or so. Thanks for any info

Compression tests showed 140 across the board. I just had one of the HG's replaced due to low compression in one cyl. its not much at all but it annoys me. It runs strong...(180,000) and starts right up everytime

I found that the Restore treatment works fairly well.

My 22RE started smoking under compression braking (due to engine sitting nearly a year w/o starting while I had the tranny and t-cases out). I think the valve stem seals dried out while the engine sat (had synthetic oil in it at the time). Anyway, I dumped in a can of the additive and it was like someone turned off the oil burning, at least for normal driving. Before treatment, I could smell the burning oil when coasting to a stop in gear. Afterwards, not a whiff of oil smell unless I do long downhills w/ engine RPMs over 3000 and vacuum over 25" Hg. I will ultimately redo the head, probably swap to a new head from EngnBldr, but for now the additive works acceptably well for me.
