92 SAS or hold out for Newer toy

Fellas, im in the position here where i can really take my ol' 92 to the limit by starting up an axle swap, or sell and hold out for a newer toyota in a few years.

reasons for selling:
one car has to go. either the 2000 civic or 92 truck.

reasons to keep the truck:
built up so far with around 170k on the clock. mods dont go too extensive, mainly restoring the truck to its day.
cheap and easy to axle swap
has the true toyota feel of being overbuilt
would like to be able to offroad for the next few years

reasons to keep the civic
gets amazing gas mileage (main reason) for a car that would be my daily driver
cheap to maintain, cheap to drive
the 170k miles for the truck. even though the engine is running as strong as ever, im not sure how much life might be left in it.
all the suspension parts i recently put on would be torn down for the axle (though this can be alleviated in my mind by trashing them first )
i fear the truck could become an endless money sink on my limitted budget to get the axle swap/gears to where i want it to be

i wont lie, id like to keep the truck. but id like to hear some opinions on this matter. if the truck could become a lot on a little budget (time AND money), it could be better to unload it for a few years, then pick up maybe a new taco or new fj. ive got a lot of time to mull this over, so anybody who has some opinions dont mind sharing them with me

It would depend on what you are planning to use the Toyota for...

An older SAS rig with mods will probably be more capable off road than a newer Toyota. Additonal ground clearance, lockers, armor, etc will always go farther than factory stuff, in my opinion. Also, if you make a mistake with an older rig and cave in a door, blow out a window or worse you won't be as upset.

That said, if the vehicle is to be used for milder terrain with a lot of road trips and exploring mixed in between, then the newer rig makes better sense. More power, reliability, warranty, and still very capable off road in all but the most difficult terrain.

I went the older, SAS route and my only regret at this point is the sluggish 3.0. Not so bad though, and there is always the 3.4 swap... :bounce2:
