4cyl Thirds

4cyl Thirds
Hey guys. I managed to pick up these 3rds yesterday. The rust on the spooled 3rd falls right off for the most part. I'm not really sure what to make of it because half the ring gear is painted and so far I really can't see any marks on the gears other then the paint marks. The other diff chewed up the carrier somewhat. The pinion nut came loose. The previous owner had a Samurai with Toy axles, said he sold it and got a Jeep and these were sitting in his garage for a few years. The cleaner 3rd is oily and obviously used.
What do you guys think of the spooled 3rd? I have done searching and found nothing about the stamp mark on the spool. "FSTOY 10 30". It is stock gearing, pinion 10t, ring 41t. I noticed the ring gears and pinion gears look very much different. It just got too dark while I was playing with the spooled 3rd. I'll be checking it out tomorrow.
I've always been good with engines and body and electrical, but axles are somewhat of a grey area to me. Everyone can do brakes, but this is one of those things were I don't know anything and I'd appreciate a chime in.
Curious to your opinion.

Thanks Mr. Woods. I played with the other 3rd today and it has 4.88 gears in it. So that answers why the ring is obviously thicker then the 4.11 gears.
Curious what is to be expected from you gear experienced guys. So the teeth them self's look good. The pinion nut did come loose on this 3rd. Previous owner said it was on a trailer that hauled his zuk. I don't know if that is true, he said he sold it a few years ago got the J**p and doesn't really remember. My carrier has pinion marks all over it. As stupid as this question is, I'm (stupider) when it comes to this stuff. I tightened the pinion nut to spec and it turns great. no binding about or less then 1/8th inch play at the pinion flange. I'm going to borrow a dial and magnetic base and see what the play I can get out of it. But generally has this ever happened and the gears were ok and or just reused?
I plan on possibly using these gears in my sfa. Eventually I'll get them checked out if I don't get the right tools and learn what is necessary. I'm checking out zuk's site right now.
Whatcha think? I paid 50 bucks for both thirds.
