3.4 Supercharger

Anyone gotta diagram of one? I got a guy that wants his powder coated, but I'm not sure if there are internal seals that would get cooked in the 400* temps.

I would say it would have some seals in it since it holds oil (usually without leaking).

Also check out post # 12 here where Dick is talking about some plastic gears in there somewhere:
http://www.ttora.com/forum/showthread.php?t=54906

I'd say IMHO it would be a bad idea to bake it at 400 deg F

It seems it would be possible if it was disassembled/stripped to just the S/C body, but that would really suck if it were permanently damaged so don't take my word for it...

Yep...I agree...the body would withstand the heat. Don't want to mess up $2,000 worth of good fun stuff! Gather my knowledge before I even consider it.

I agree, it most definately has seals on it. The needle bearings are all permanently greased which means you'll cook the grease on them for sure. The nose drive has a front seal which keeps the oil in. I would never put it through a powdercoating oven without disassembling it first......but that's just me. It might survive fine, but I wouldn't want to be the one to bet $2k on it.

Here's a good thread to show you what the insides look like:

a point that has been brought up before, and I dont know if gets to 400* but I would say it does get pretty warm. If you had one of those infared thermometers you could check it out.

Well, I wouldn't think much hotter than 200*F... If I went driving around for quite a long time, and then poured water on the S/C body, it wouldn't boil... In fact most times I'm able to directly touch the supercharger's body even after driving around for some time.

It's definately not a good idea. I could probably come up with many reasons why.

Actually, I am not even talking out of the blue, I already considered the idea and decided that when I do send mine out to be P/C'ed (way down the road) I'll do it when magnusen is rebuilding it and I'll have them 'lend' me the casting only once it's all disassembled. I am lucky I have the 1st/3rd gen, because I don't know how far you can strip the 2nd/4th gen if you wanted it a different color. It's probably possible, but much harder.

I don't PC anything assembled that has to do with automobile accessories or mechanicals....usually most of the stuff does have seals and require disassembly. Thanks for the inputs...an SC shell wouldn't be hard to do at all. Just gotta tape off the bottom so no PC or chemicals get into the inside of it.
