22re with 1-tons

I'm planing on running a 22re, 5spd, dual cases 4.7 in the rear case and 1-ton diffs with a 5.38 gear and 40" tires. My question is what are my chances of street drivability with this setup, don't plan on flying down the highway but wouldn't mind cruising around on a saturday night or something. All opions are appreciated, thanx.

Tires might wobble on you but with 5.38 you should be able to push 40's no problem. I run 4.88's and 37's on a 22re and it still pulls strong in 4th going up hills.

Not near low enough IMHO - I would be looking at 5.71 or lower.

What axles are you using?

But 5th is probably about worthless, and he's gonna have at least 500 lbs on you.

I dont know what the laws are where you are but around here I could never get away with the tires sticking out as far as they would with tons underneath.

Other than that I think you'd have a nice setup.

thanxs so far, i plan on using a dana 60 up front and corporate14 outback, the biggest matching gear set i can find is a 5.38. As far as laws for tires sticking out were allowed 6"s past the flare, so the flares will be pretty wide as this is all going in a suzuki lj80. Could go with 60's front and rear and go to a better gear but i was hoping to use the 14b i already had.

No actually 5th pulls great too until you get to a big hill and then it's a little worthless but I easily pull 75 in 4th (don't know the exsact RPM but it's still fairly low).

5.89's, 6.16's, or 7.17's would be better but like you said, 5.38's are as low at the 14B is geared. I'm at 5.29's, Toyota axles, and 39.5" Iroks. It's pretty slow on the road

Been rethinking the plan and might go with toy axles 5.29s with longfields. Still would like to run the 40s, i'm not hard on the throttle more of a finess type of guy (till i get pissed of sometimes). Any thoughts?

I have the 14bolt but no front axle yet, a good stock front D60 around here easily runs $1000+. Already have toy axles laying around from my old sammy.
