255/85/16's look good to me, too! Just as tall and even narrower than what I'm running now.

But for now, as in, starting Friday, I will be running some 31x10.5 Firestone Destination ATs on my stock wheels. Hoping for lots of highway life and an occasional light-duty run. I'll probably hold off on getting a bigger/beefier wheeling set for a while. But if I hold off, who knows... I might decide to put some armor on before getting the rubber.

Well, I bought the extended, free-replacement warranty for the tires. $15.xx per tire, replaces the tire for free for 50,000 miles.

I figure why not, it only cost about $10 overall, since anyone who works at my company gets a 10% discount on the total bill at Hibdon's. the discount is almost 50 and the warranty is 60.

So... my mission is to blow a few sidewalls and keep myself in a new set of tires. I think I know a friendly stump near Cassville...

To be quite honest I have a set of 16" Toyota wheels behind the shop. I have a set of bullet hole rims on my 4Runner. I got tires a few weeks ago and I wanted to put the sixteens on. The deciding factor was price. I ended up paying $280.00 for some General Ameritrac 265/85/15.

 

I have 15" rims now but will be buying 16" rims in the future. My only reason is because of the different tire sizes that you can go with by going to 16s. Im liking the 265/75 (31.6x10.4) and the 285/75 (32.8x11.2) Can't get them with 15".

 

Yes you can. It is called "plus sizing".

Check out this calculator. I use it before I do all of my wheel/tire selections.

With that calculator you can put in your stock size wheel and tire. Then play with the second setting to find a size that will work for you.



I voted for 15" and not going bigger for my pickup. I bought it with 16x8 +12 offset wheels with 215/55/16s front and 225/55/16s rear. The ride is sporty and fun but after running my winter setup I think I will sell the 16s.

Right now I have 15x8 -10 offset enkie mesh with 225/70/15s. They are winterforce tires and they are loud heck.

But they ride like a majic carpet while the shocks still deliver crisp handling.

I have a set of 205/50/15s that I am considering running on 15x8s for the summer. I think the ride would be hard as a rock though.

 

i am running 16" 03 taco wheels on my 80. i had to space them in the rear due to the 235/85/16 tires rubbing on the frame but i was able to gain 2" of clearance, the tires are 4" bigger in diameter.
but yea 15" tires are generally cheaper.
