3.0 EFI EGR issues

I have a check engine code 71 and I noticed that my EGR temp sensor isnt connected. I dont even have one just the other peice that connects and goes into the wiring harness. How can i use a 10K ohm resistor to bypass the EGR if the temp sensor isnt there? Can i just connect the other end of the resistor to a wire going to ground?

And if I did use the 10 k ohm resistor and left the EGR connected would it still make my engine run hot? And would it still give me better gas mileage (cause my gas mileage is total ลลลล right now)
