My dad get about 17 combined. Better than his 90 3.0 auto Runner (16mpg), but barely better that his Burb (15mpg) which had way more power and was bigger. Wasn't 01 the first year for them? The 01/02 autos have a notoriously week overdrive, so that's bad for towing. Although it's not like the 4.7 can tow anything in OD anyways... so it kind of works out.

If you hate over-reacting traction control and stability control systems, or like to lock the center diff, the Sequoia isn't for you. In the early ones you can't turn VSC off in 2wd, can not turn the traction control off, and can only lock the center diff in 4-lo with the gear selector in L.

And they don't handle very well, I'd rather drive the Burb on a twisty road.

But he still says it's the best vehicle he's ever owned. Nice maneuverable size, cruises nice down the interstate, quiet (for its day), good riding, and relatively trouble free.

Oh, and don't worry if the engine sounds like it has a dropped valve, that's normal. Good ol' Toyota Tick.
