yup , ms resizer changes the size after you input the dimensions. ARGHHH. I need to use/ find something different

 

When saving a JPG, most (all?) of the programs I've ever used will give you some sort of way to specify the "quality" of the image. This is a tradeoff between compression and clarity. Look for an "advanced" button or some such right at the point you're specifying a filename to save - you may have to use a "save as" function.

More compression = less quality, but you'll be able to find a median that will get you in under the 10k file limit and you'll still be able to have a good clear pic.


I'm happy to help out with file conversions as well. Put together an email with your YT username, and the pics you want to submit. Send 'em off to ytresize@midiwall.com. I'll fix 'em up and then send them on to Corey.

If you guys will note... I used a "magic" username for the email. Once I'm done with this, I can set a filter on the server side and anything inbound won't even make it to the client side.

ooo! one side note...If you're using Outlook, then please send the pics along as _Attachments_ (Insert | file), don't "Paste" them into the body of the email. I'm not using Outlook and it takes a couple of extra steps to pull the pics out of MS's "winmail.dat" file when you paste them.

Hey Wab... Do you have any hints for resizing from non-stock sizes? i.e., take a pic that's been cropped to 640x400 down to 133x100?

I've either been re-cropping the pic to make up the difference of the short dimension, and/or letting PS stretch a couple of pixels, and/or adding a bit to the canvas size then blurring the edges.

 

I took down my offer since you seemed to have it handled.

Easiest way I've found is to crop it to a stock size and then shrink it. I do that with all my website pics, as that is the only reason I learned. I don't do any fancy stuff...I prefer K.I.S.S.

maybe i'm in the minority here, but i think there should be only one centerpiece picture. and i'm not just saying that cause i made one, it doesn't have to be mine at all.

i just think that way there's a bit of consistency to the banner and it gives new visitors a uniform "website identity" of offroading toyota trucks. the random rig pictures already provides the element of dynamism.

"my other pics are at the cleaners" hmmm....

Okay, just an FYI; I found an elegant solution to the duplicate image problem.

What is happening now, is that each image is chosen randomly, independant of the others. In other words, there is a one in (number of images in pool) chance that a particular image will be selected. Then the next image is chosen and the odds are the same and so on, for four images.

That means that the bigger the pool of images, the less likely any particular image will be chosen. However, no matter how large the pool is, probability dictates that sometimes an image will be selected more than once. Basically what I have built was a purely random slot machine More on that later...

But, I found an answer... I can now check each image as it is selected, to see if it's already in the chosen pile. If it is, I discard it and grab another and so on... This should take care of our duplicate problem without slowing things down Yeah!

I am coding the new solution and then will do some testing, so Corey should have the new version either later tonight or sometime tomorrow.

As a side project, I am not working on both a slot machine and a poker game that will use the same script as their basis The poker game is more complicated because it has to remember what cards have already been played... hahahahhaha

Nope. I was trying to avoid going the nested IF statement route. That was slowing things down too much

Instead I am feeding everything into an array, and then using;

in_array
Checks if a value exists in an array (PHP 4, PHP 5)
Searches haystack for needle and returns TRUE if it is found in the array, FALSE otherwise.

Actually, the "formal" solution to dealing a poker hand is basically a single IF statement and a recursive call.
