Will a W56-C fit an 88 4runner

Dont worry, I searched.

Unfortunately the answers i came across were sorta open ended..

Like the thread title says, will it? I know the 88 has a w56b that is a top shift, and the C is a forward, but i have no idea what the difference is and if it will bolt on.

For information's sake i drive an 88 4runner, 22re with an automatic i want to swap out and im looking for a parts truck, but dont know if an 89 will be suitable because of this.

Cheers.

Lets you know what year has what tranny. The G54 58 trannies were for add models i believe. Also I think the difference between w56 a-b-c etc is just the gear ratios and the housings are the same. So I would say yes.

Assuming you are getting the t-case with the tranny, then that combination should work. Only real issue with top vs. fwd. shift is where the shifters come up through the floor. Since you seem to be doing an auto->manual swap, you need to cut holes anyway, so cut the holes where they need to be.

No real difference, they both shift the same (2H-4H-4L). On a forward shift case the shift rails come out of the front of the case into the transmission and engage the t-case shifter there. In a top shift case the shift rails are contained inside the case as is the shifter:

Only advantage of a top shift t-case is for use as the rear case in a dual-case setup. The rear case *must* be a top shift case.
