Why yesterday SUCKED!

Ok, yesterday sucked because my dude was gonna tune up my 91 v6 4runner while I was at work. He called and told me the head gasket need to be replaced cause it was leaking alittle. Ok, cool, replace it...whatever. I get a call later and my dude called telling me that he decided to put the truck on the lift. He found oil all over the underbody. Oil pan and main gasket and if it has a gasket, its leaking. There are not major leaks but a leak is a leak. Short term fix is engine honey. Money got real tight so major work is out, what to do????????????

You need to work out out cost of repairs against replacement engine(if old one is toast)and installation. Can you spanner yourself?

Thats what i plan on doing to mine!

Hopefully i can either
A: convince my parents to let me buy a donor truck and keep it for a month or so or
B: move out and don't worry about it.

I am kind of leaning twoards B!

It ran ok, but I also just got the truck so thats the reason for tunning it up. As for the head, there was oil around the side. He was going to replace it but decided to check from below so he put it on the lift. Thats when he found the oil all under the truck.

FJ 40 Engine swap

We are in the process of rebuilding a 77 FJ40. Thinking about engines and $5 a gallon gas. How would a swap with a 5vz be, would it fit withoug cutting? And the 5 speed tranny is nice but I don't want to switch everything. Could you replace engine and tranny and then get a custom made drive shaft to fit the drive train?

5vz uses the same motor mounts, same transmission you already have its just slap it in and wire it up.

Swap it out..yeah but how much is that. Anyone know of any places in NJ the I can take my truck to get looked at. I don't have a drive way plus I live in an apartment. So doing anything myself is pretty much out unless its easy to get to.

Call the dealership and ask them if the "Special Service Campain" for the headgasket has been done. You will need your VIN, and may even need to call Toyota Customer Service...there is a sticky on this. If the "recall" hasn't been done yet, the dealership will basically rebuild your engine for free. They might not replace ALL the parts, but they will replace whatever is worn out. I have had this done to my truck, not even 6 months ago. It didn't cost me a dime and my truck runs GREAT!!!

Is there a point where the recall is just not valid anymore. I have 170k on it. If it doen't matter, well get me that sticky and any other info. Also, any number for customer service. Any help on this would be great.

The light at the end of the tunnel wasn't the way out but a train. Well I called Toyota to find out that the previous owner had it done already and missed the warranty by a year. Well, looks like its time for plan B, run it till it dies.

Well that's a bummer.

Lesson learned, next time have your "dude" check out anything before you buy it, especially if it's got "oil all over the side of the engine", etc.
