Why did Toyota...?

I've noticed that Toyota did some things and didn't utilize them and it just makes me wonder why. I'll try to name as many as I can remember.

-We all here of putting 2nd gen 4Runner seats into our 1st gen Runners and 2nd gen trucks. Well, my friend did this swap. The driver seat bolted right in, no problem. But when we got to the passenger seat, we were puzzled the seat seemed to have a longer track than the 1st gen seat and didn't fit. But then we discovered that there are mounting spots hidden under the carpet and covered by little stickers. Why in the world did Toyota put those mounting points there when they were not utilized for the applications of the car?

-Another one I found while my carpet was out is that there is a single threaded hole on the drive-train hump in the rear seating area.

-And lastly for now, if you take off the plastic goodies on the roll-bar on the 1st gen Runner, there are mounting points that mount front seat-belts so you can have 3-point seat belts in back.

Why did Toyota do all these things and not use them? Or, why did they do all these things when they already had a different way of doing what they were doing?

Why?

Because.

RHD vehicles and driver and passenger rails same on pickup, different on 4Runners

Who knows

Foreign models had rear seat belts

Exactly. Same with the holes for a handle above the drivers seat. Just poke the fabric with a pen or something and the handle screws right in.

That all makes sense, guess I didn't think that far. Haha.

Actually, I wouldn't knowing all of the things.

-Shoulder belts on roll-bar.
-Longer track for passenger seat.
-Handle above door on driver side.

Anyone know more?

So does the 1st Gens....wait are you saying the super rare 2Dr 2nd Gens didn't have the nifty 'rear passenger, i'll-open-my-own-eff'n-door-thank-you, handle'? and you added one because the slots & holes where there? If you 'did' nice mod, and if you didn't just lie, i wouldn't know the difference.

I also bet there were provisions on each model to be either 5spd manual or Automatic....

I was thinking to myself, "Why is he going to do that to the driver's door when it's obvious it's on the passenger's side since the seat moves forward?" But now it makes sense why you want to do it to the driver's side since it would leave you with the same situation on the passenger side.

Conclusion: I think your seat is broken. Or, Toyota had a bit of a mental problem when designing the special 2-door 2nd gen and installed a chair that doesn't slide forward.

why does toyota make their seatbelts to always have a twist in them?
or better yet why do you ALWAYS see one hanging out of the door while the car is parked?

for a sr5 light i wired one in all the wiring was there under the plate and i wired it a deck light switch in my 87 extra cab. pretty neat how they left all the necessary plugs and wiring. not so much on my 90 4runner. the map lights i had to wire in everything.
