What is this red light on my steering column?

Stupid question time...please entertain me...
I have a 87 4runner and there is a small red light on the top of the steering column next to the ignition button. It stays on all the time.
What is it? I couldn't find it in the owners manual.

Nothing factory that I know about, most likely either part of an old alarm system or one of those fake out leds to make people think there is an alarm.

Cylinder deactivation button. In order to increase fuel mileage, you can press it and it will shut off 4 of your cylinders, just like the new Mopar V8's!

Isn't technology GREAT?!
