What oil to use?

40,000 miles on rebuilt long block 22re ...BUT during the first 5000 miles he overheated it ,"heat tab melted" remove head, re surface new headgasket.. rod out radiator..etc.... NOW 35,000 LATER.... he is running 10/30 and oil pressure drops a lot at idle.... Now I bought it... Dare I try synthetic 10/40 or 20/50.. any thoughts?
Thanks.

I find I need to run at least a 10W40 in my 22RE to keep the idle oil pressure up, so I run that, 15W40 or 20W50 and it does fine. I'll run synthetic if I anticipate long highway trips, otherwise conventional oil works just as well for me.

Thanks I did put in 10w40 and idle pressure is up a bit. I was told if I run synthetic it will find all the leaks... and right now I'm running pretty dry.
