what kind of lift?

hey guys, i finally had got my truck running how it should again and now i am looking for a lift. i want to go about 8 inches or so and stuff some 38's under it. what kind of lift/tires work the best? i like to play in the mud alot and also climb. by the way i have a 92 toy pickup standard cab.

Well, to be honest, you'd be looking at a solid axle swap, new driveshafts, new gears, lots and lots more upgrades. 38's would tear apart the IFS and with the stock gears, i'd be surprised if you moved fast at all. It'd be a big project, but it could be done.

I don't know if "just" a SAS will get you there - seems most people are doing 35's. You're looking at A LOT of custom fabrication - to the point of you need to evaluate just building a buggy from scratch.

Might get more info on www.TTORA.com - they have a whole section on SAS.

I don't think there's an 8inch IFS lift out there. You could get a 4inch suspension and 3 inch body but it wouldn't be the best way to go. You're gonna want to spend the TON of money it will take to do it right and you're not gonna want to drive the final product on the road much. I say go a little milder.

i was doing a little research and didnt find any 8 inch lifts as you guys were saying, and i did read up on some articles on how it is a bad idea to go that high without swaping to a solid axle. i was looking at the superlift 5 inch suspension lift and then put something like 35-36 inch tires on it and probably re-gear?

if you go to 35-36's your gonna need to regear, definetly. I'm guessing you got the 22RE too? If you want to run 35's or 36's, get a 4" lift, then hack the fenders or get a body lift and do some fender hacking.

where in kenn. you located?

thats what i was thinking, yes i do have a 22re. i found a 5" superlift for a good price and maybe a 2" body lift but not sure. also what gears whould i run it with?

i live on 19th and highway 395. kinda by the shumate harley place.

The lowest gears you can find! AT LEAST 5.27's, probably more like 5.71's, and may want to look at changing out the gears INSIDE the tranny and transfer case (or dual cases) too. Making this thing both streetable and offroadable will be VERY tough. Remember, us Toyota guys don't have the fount of infinite engine displacement to dip into to get enough power to turn really huge tires.

IMHO, do a 4-5" lift so you can fit 33x12.50's and regear with front/rear lockers and get out and USE the truck, learn to drive it, and run circles around guys who spent years waiting on their trucks to be built.

With a 3VZ, running 35's and 5.71 gearing (SAS) consider that power gets to be an issue. It was for me this last weekend on pritchett. (But the 5.71 gearing also allows me to pretty much have crawling gears with an Auto tranny)

What? No SAS section on Yotatech???

i know what you guys are saying, i got 31" mt on my truck without a body lift or anything. i still can climb anything that any other lifted ford or chevy around here can. but we also have alot of mud and as it is my truck doesnt have alot of ground clearance.

i want it so that i can go out and have a good time in the mud and climbing hills but i still want to be able to drive it everyday. im guessing that 5.27's dont do too good on highway tho right?

for 38" I would go with the excursion lift (one I have had my eye on) it is a little pricey though, '06 Excursion around 50gs, 5 inch lift w springs and shocks and add a lefs, 1500, and 38s about 7-800. hahaha, jk, good luck, never ever seen 38s on a smaller SUV like the runner, but it could be done.....

You can do it, and you can do it without a SAS. I bet you see 37s and bigger on IFS all the time where you live, big tires have long been a staple of offroaders in the muddy trail PNW!
A 4" ifs lift and a 3" bod lift will give you room for 37s. 5.29 gears will run them on the highway just fine. (as fine as it gets with a 22re for oomph.) Unless you just drive like an idiot, the IFS will hold up just fine. Leave the front diff open. Lock or limited slip the rear. 90% of the people who get an SAS don't need it. When you start hanging with the big dogs and breaking your IFS, then you need to think about SAS.

Having said all that, the best advice is above - get it to where 33s work great and use it that way. You will find you really don't need more, you'll love the versatile abilities without breaking stuff a lot, and it will drive so much better on road and off. No worrying about tipping over on curves or in crosswinds and easier to climb into also!
