i've come to realize..even if you make up for the tires with gears...you still have this big lift..and these big tires..so even with 5.29's...your gas mileage is still gonna be
with that being said my runner has a 4in lift and 33's with 4.56's and im gonna take it up to 4.88's in hopes of better gas mileage..LOL

It's likely you will actually get BETTER mileage with 5.29's, since that will get you back to stock gear reduction when you take into account your bigger tires.

exactly..
the reason i am doing it is for the gas mileage..because right now..it will take alot of pedal to get the runner up to 70mph..well..with 4.88's it will take less pedal to get it to 70mph..same with the 5.29's and 35's..
99.9999% sure it wont HURT your gas mileage..unless you just fall in love with the new found 'power' LOL

False. With a lift kid you add more weight and with bigger tires you add even more. You can regear it but weight is weight. For an example, lets say the tires and lift kit weighs a total of 500 lbs. Take your stock 98 4Runner and put 500lbs into the truck, do you think your gas mileage would increase? Regearing does help but you still have to move the weight.
