What gas 87 91 or 93

trying to figure out if there is any benefit to upgrading from "regular" 87 octane. Mileage seems the same but interested in what you folks think? Thanks

I wouldn't run higher than 87 unless you need to...
Like if it knocks or runs poorly on 87
Pretty much just don't use cheap gas like arco and change your fuel filter every now and then

Octane doesn't make power, run cleaner, bake fresh chocolate chip cookies, or do any of the things that are commonly misunderstood.

Higher octane fuel burns slower. Which allows for higher compression or more aggressive spark timing WITHOUT detonation. Unless there is something wrong with your engine, there is no reason why it should be detonating on 87 octane fuel. With higher octane, you actually run the risk of having incomplete combustion. Now, it's highly unlikely since any good spark plug in a properly running engine should ignite a complete combustion event with 93 octane no matter what....but still. Stick with 87, and buy it from a quality filling station.

My BMW liked 91 octane...

All my Toyota's, however, get the 87 treatment. Never noticed any improvement with higher octane in the Toy's.

one of the only benefits to running higher grade fuel is the additives it has over 87, such as ethanol, nitrogen and a few other that help with water evaporation, combustion chamber cleaning and cooling along with valve cooling..

Quick silver hit it on the head--nicely put--not to mention that if you run to high of an octane it will cause carbon fouling more quickly........

apparently you didn't get the martha stewart edition.

oh yeah, 87 is just fine and spending more just wastes money unless you have a mod that requires it.

I have a silly question, but 85 is new to me. They say that it's the same as 87 because here in Colorado we're at a higher elevation. I ran 85 a couple times and i felt like it ran slower. Maybe it's just my imagination?

My dual carbed 85 Prelude LOVED 91 over in Cali. I heard that older cars are not meant to run on this "new" type of gasoline. So you throw acetone in it and it'll run better. Course these yota's are EFI. I'm still curious if anyone knows about carbs and acetone.

x2 on what everyone else is saying... But above all, DON'T READ your owners manual...

Studies have shown reading it gives you impotence and ostrich ear syndrome...

LMFAO! Just found my new signature! Thanks

the higher the octane the higher the fuel's ability to RESIST combustion.

Save the extra cash for some cookies

That's why top fuel dragsters run Nitro

i used to run 91 octane shell in my '86 toyota about once a month..just like $15 or so, it wouldn't make a difference while running the 91, but when i switched back to 87 i could tell it ran BETTER, i'm guessing the cleaning agents and crap???

I run 87 in my pickup.
In the winter i ran 91. It seemed to help with the cold startup.
