Welcome to YT, and if it's a 4spd, probably the L45.

It is a W50 being a 2WD, and your trans code is listed under the hood on a plate attached to the firewall. Part of the plate says A/TM, which means Axle/Transmission

DC isn't the w50 a 5speed?

I second the L45. that's the one 4x4wire lists as an application for that. but doesn,t separate 2wd from 4wd

Possibly, which would make it a W40 then. According to my computer though, it is a W50. The ID plate will tell it.

4x4wire is specifically for 4x4 vehicles...not 2WD

I take it back, it is indeed a W50

This ID plate is from a 75 hilux. Note the W50 on it

Also I still think that being the truck is an 81 it could be the L45. It is a RWD tranny that was used around that period of 81-84 afaik.

Hopefully the OP will check his ID plate.

Hmm, you might be correct, but I have only ever heard of the L45 being a 4x4 here in America at least....

OP! Chime in!
