Weird Issue With Transmission.

Coming back from some 4x4ing yesterday, me and the family took my 1990 4runner to the power wash. when taking off from a stop light, my truck slipped out of first. jerked the truck and sounded rough. i pulled over, checked everything out. all appears fine. truck shifts fine, no weird sounds or burning smell, hasent slipped since.. im thinking, (hoping) that its just my 35" tires. it takes more to get those big boys rolling, and maybe it just slipped out? i dont know. suggestions?

Shifter bushing worn out, maybe it wasn't fully engaged. Happened to me and when I took the shifter apart, I didn't even have a bushing. Installed Marlins shifter bushing and solved all problems.

yeah, you can repair it in about 15 min. Go to Marlin crawlers website and they sell them on there that are durable plastic thst wont wear out like factory rubber. They list all directions and they are only about 6 or 10 dollars each. All you have to do is pull the shifter out and switch the bushings.

Yeah, let me know how you come out. I did this to my truck a while back and it made a world of difference.

well, bought the 4runner a month ago. 3.0liter v6 sr5. its a 1990, 149000 original miles. runs great, moter and truck are in decent shape for being 20 years old. bout three weeks ago i quickly power washed the engine, (not alot) just got some mud off it. the next day it wouldnt start.. had plenty of power, i had spark, all the spark plugs seem to be good. it has new spark plug wires, good battery, the engine would turn over just fine but wouldnt start up. i had it towed to a shop and as soon as it got there, it started up fine. two weeks went by with no issue. then it happened again. i havent had water near the engine since the first time i did it. after left it alone for a few hours, tried it again and it ran fine. did it to me last night too. i messed with it for an hour, adjusted the bolt where the fuel line and the injection meet?? (i think) new to toyotas, as soon as i did that it started. its been running fine all day today exept, now when first start it up it bogs while idleing. like (idle..bog..idle..bog..idle..bog) once it warms up for a minute its fine... ummm i also figured out today that my gas pedal cable, is just a little sticky. when i put my foot behind the pedal and gently push it towards me, it idles a little lower (where its suppose to) around 800rpm, instead of 1200. im wondering if maybe sometimes when im done driving my pedal cable sticks open just enough to slowly flood the truck?? so when i go to start its flooded?? does that sound like something that could happen? im not sure... its starting to get on my nerves though. every day its a gamble if it will start up or not.

Hey i was just reading in and was wondering if u had done a coppression check on it? and the water issue ive been down that road and can say mine is very very sensitive to water. Also the charging system is terrible so i had upgraded all the wires, but the under wire connections and wire itself are all rotted.

i havnt messed with many 3.0s but i do know if the mass air flow meter gets wet and shorted it wont run and its located on the breather box with wire plug see if you got water in the connection and also unbolt it and make sure no water entered in thru the bottom and the throttle issue take and look on you accelerator cable theres two nuts that mounts it to the throttle body make sure theres a lilbit of slack in the cable souns like its adjusted to tight on the cable, loosen both nuts and give it some free play.. let me know how that works???

Yeah the gas could be causing the idle issue, but as far as flooding goes, it has Electronic Fuel Injection so when the key is off the fuel pump is off and no gas will enter the engine. Does it bog going down the road or just at start up? If it bogs going down the road, check the fuel filter, and you may have shorted the fuel pump relay so on the times when the truck won't start, listen for the fuel pump to be on. That may be the problem.

VENGEANCE, naw driving down the road and even when stopped and idleing it acts normal. it only does it like the first minute of starting... i just went out and started it this morning and i had no problems at all... no bogging, started right up.... lol AHHHHHH!!!!! its driving me crazy. people keep telling the fuel pump is going out.. but ive had it checked and have plenty of preasure...... i dont know... umm vengeance where is the fuel pump relay at??
