I'm planning a v-8 swap in my 1984 pickup 4x4. I like the buick 215 all aluminun because it only weighs 320 lbs. same as the 22re I think. Havn't called advance adapters yet, but they don't list it on their website. Anybody done this one?

 

Been done. But if i remember correctly its not the best choice of a motor to use. I beleive it has some fitment issues, has a bad imbalance problem, and you better be good at fabrication, because i dont know of anyone who makes any adapter parts.

If i was doing a v8 i would probably use a Ford 302. The distributor is on the front and gives better firewall clearance.
But a chevy 350 is a good choice too.

Also look into a Chevy 4.3 or Toyota 3.4 for a v6 swap.

Though I am a Chevy guy, x2 on the Fords because they have the dist in the front...


And, I can't remember it now but I watched Hot Rod TV, or some show on SPEED where they used a modern Ford V6 that had V8 like power, and it was easier than pie to convert...

In the show they only changed ONE thing to make it stand alone.

Really appreciate the input. Second choice IS a Ford 302. I was just concerned about the additional weight. And is the stock 5-speed up for the challenge?

 

You can get some different springs that will hold the extra weight easily.

And for daily driving, most people say yes.
Wheeling, i would never risk it, unless it was a r151f turbo trans.

But many people run v8s, with the stock v8 trans, adapted to a toyota gear driven t-case, and say it works fine.
I have no experience with it though.

 

I truthfully feel the 1UZFE Lexus v8 is the best v8 you can put in a yota. This way u can keep everything toyota without having to get change the tranny or t-case. Plus the power specs are amazing without being too much for the drivetrain parts to handle. (sometime in the near future i will be installing one in yota)

Not sure on a price. But i know the 1uz swap is much more work to get it to fit right. Its becoming more common though. So im sure you could figure it out if thats the path you choose.

 

Please stop, and take a couple hours to look through the motor swap section. A lot of what you're asking can be answered by looking through that.
