Using starter fliud

Hello all.
this is my 1st post.
i have a 88 pickup 22R not RE. this truck was given to me a few months back. it ran fine then after it sitting for about a month, it will not start, changed plugs, fuel filter, it is getting spark. i saw a post in another thread that fuel can go back into the tank and will take awhile to fill the carb. ive tried to jump start it with a fresh battery and connected by jumper cable to my other car. still wont start.

will starter fluid help to give the engine a jump to get the fuel pump going to get gas in the carb??? im just afraid that it will back fire out the carb.

Yes it could do both.

Leave the air cleaner on.

Are you getting gas up the Carb ??

If it does start with starting fluid you still need to figure out why it does not start now.

i seen posts about a window that you can see gas in the carb. but i dont see a window, . i never worked on a carb vehicle before. when you say leave the aircleaner on, did you mean put it back on after i spray the starter fluid into the carb?

Depending on the air cleaner. Haven't worked on one with a 22r. But on other motors I have worked on you can spray some through the air filter and start it right up. Might help to have a friend to either spray or start. Make sure you back away just a bit until you know what's going to happen. Most likely it will fire right up.

Got it started. With almost 2 can of starter fluid and 30 minutes later. The carb windows finally has gas in it. Finally I can start driving it again.

many years ago,I bought an 81 with same issue. here's what i found, remove air filter cover, look down carb and pump accelerator, you should see gas squirting through accellerator arm,in my case i did not, because passageways were clogged and required cleaning out, take top of carb off,and clean passagaways use air, not a piece of wire
!Had to do a few times to finally fix. That's my two cents, check it out, hope this my solve the prolem.

I do plan on replacing all the fuel and vacuum hoses. A lot of them are brittle. I'm sure some has a small leak that may have caused the carb to go dry. But that's my guess, I'm sure I'm wrong. This is my 1st carburetor truck. I don't know anything about tuning carburetors.
