Question Using low range with front locks off???

Sometimes i need lower pulling power but don't need extra traction. Is there a problem with the wheel hubs disconnected or turned to off to put it into low range with 2 wheel drive? I wouldn't think it could hurt anything but just don't want to damage anything. Thanks in advance

yea man, there's no reason to worry. all you're doing is using the POWAH of low-range. if anything, you're putting less load on the driveline.

4WD doesnt care where the power is going. Hubs locked, unlocked, doesn't matter. You can even pull the rear driveshaft, put it in 4wd and have front wheel drive with low range!

I may or may not have had to do this on more than one occasion.

Who can say I was always taught never to engage 4 wheel drive with out the hubs locked. The reason being it might be possible to have a hub engage for what ever reason.

This is one of those things .

Like disconnecting the negative battery cable before welding on a vehicle

I was also programed to not have any premarital sex Bill Clinton is my hero!!

Better safe then sorry
