Turbo gears in a 22RE ???

This 86 4x4 2.4RE truck is supposed to have turbo gears as the previous engine was turbo.Any benefits from this set up as opposed to whatever gearing is standard on this rig?any MPG difference?Don't know nothing about any of this stuff.

gearing will be the same unless your talking auto (4:30) versus manual (4:10), however, the differentials on the turbo and v6 (same differentials) are a little stronger.

I could be wrong, but I think you're talking about the rear diff which is called the "V6/Turbo 8" diff". That doesn't determine the gear ratio, that's only the housing. This 8" diff was used for 4 cyl turbo and V6 pickups from '86-95 (as well as 4runners up till '02).

I had an 86 turbo/5 speed with 3.90's. The MPG's will differ depending on the type of driving you do. Since you are in the mountains, you probably would benefit from lower gearing, but as previously stated, we can't tell which gears you have based solely on your truck being a turbo model. One thing to consider however, is that if you have the original turbo transmission (R151F), then it is far superior in strength compared to the normal 4 cyl transmission.

Enjoy your Yota!

If it's a 4WD, get that 5 speed...

If it's 2WD, there's nothing special about it...
