Transfer/Tranny ?
I'm going to be pulling the transfer case this weekend to replace the rear out put seal, tranny out put seal and twin shifter and while I had some free time today I shot the bolts with some PB. I then noticed that when I take the transfer case out nothing is holding up the tranny. Do you guys put a 2x4 or something under there? A jack or jack stand? I was going to use the jack to lower the transfer case after reading it's a bit heavy/awkward with one person. I only have one jack that will reach the height I need. What do you guys suggest?
Also I don't understand the part were you have to apply the sealant to the new out put seal. Can some explain that. Do you need the sealant on the tranny out put seal also?

You put the sealant around the splines of the output shafts, after placing the companion flanges on them. Then you put the washers and nuts on. The bead of sealant seals the washers to the companion flanges.

I think I understand now. I wasn't aware the the companion flange was splined. I had read some were on here that you actual put the grey rtv on the out put seal.
From what your saying, when you tighten everything down it seals it self up with the grey rtv.

From around the splines atleast. Grey RTV is fine. Toyota recommends their special red stuff, but I've used Ultra Grey, Ultra Copper, and regular high temp red on transmissions and transfer cases without any issues. There's some radial lip seals that seal the outer part of the companion flanges. You're supposed to wipe some MP grease on the lips of those before installing the flanges.

I've never had anyone help me remove a transmission or a transmission/transfer case combo. But I'm not a scrawny weakling either.

Yes. AFAIK. But I don't no anything about the twin stick installation. Does that reuse the old gasket, or did they give you a new one? It would probably be good enough to reuse the old gasket if it's still in good shape. But you might also dress it with some RTV too. Or if it's shot, you could use just RTV there also.
