I have an '86 4runner 22re with the auto tranny and when i shift it into 2nd or ''L" 1st gear, it takes a very very long time for it to respond and downshift! it shifts up just fine on its own and will downshift ONLY if i stomp on it! However, when the ruck has been running for a good hour or so, that is when i can get it to go into a lower gear by shifting it with the shift lever. It is helpfull to shift it like a manual tranny considering i drive up and down steep hills in Lake Tahoe. I am considering on doing a full tranny service to the truck, but any ideas from you experienced gearheads would be greatly appreciated!
