Hey i have a 1983 Toyota pickup and i want to find out towing capacity for it

Truck specs:1983 standard bed toyota pickup
22r w/ 31,000 miles
1/2 ton
33 inch mudd tires (dont know brand)

Just what model Airstream??

How much does it weigh??

What is the tongue weight??

Does the Airstream have brakes ??

Just how far and it what part of the world??

Pretty much comes down to the weight and your experience .

you already have 33"-what brake upgrades did you do to your brakes? stock gears?

class 3 hitch? what kind of electronic brake controller do you have?

personally i would not tow over 2000 lbs with a 1st gen truck, i don't know of an Airstream small enough to tow behind an 83

It has the stock brakes with a class 3 hitch and about 70-80 pounds of torque. I was was pretty sure it wouldnt be able to tow it but i was seeing what i would be able to tow. This is my sons page i think. He told me to ask here. But i have driven trucks/semis and have a class a license. The airstream is a '58 and loaded down its at about 3 tons. Ill just tow it on my other vehicle. Its about a 40-50 mile dirt road in nor cal up to a creak that we camp at regularly. Just got the toyota 3 months or so ago and havent towed anything behind it. Thanks though!

It is one of those things if there was no other option .

One could get away with it.

Being California I would bet there is some sort of a law on the books with a hefty fine for towing over the capacity of the tow vehicle

Like getting caught with 100 ,000 in the wagon running around the scale.

Yea. In the town im from, their is no sherrifs or police. The only worry is forest rangers but they arent always around and i used to work for them so it would nkt be all to bad if i was caught

I have dragged thing close to that weight with my old 85. All 40mph or under. Now I say dragged because my definition of towing is havering the ability to stop it. And it sound like you know that driving more than 4wheelers like you do. But one thin for sure your breaking system will be overwhelmed. So you all you would need is the 3 G's to pull with. Gears, Guts, and God. But yea if you have a full size that's much safer.

Personally I would not want to find out that my liability insurance wasn't gonna pay because I was overloaded after an accident...
