Threads for aftermarket temp sensor?

I have read every thread online and cannot find anything at all!

my current temp gauge isn’t working. I’ve replaced it, tested resistance, I’ve done everything possible and still zero reading on the dash.

im giving up on it and want to add an aftermarket gauge. I would like to screw in to the same hole the OEM ones uses.

what size adapter do I need? If someone can help me I would be so grateful.

I just did head gasket on truck and I’m too afraid to drive it until I can verify temp. After running for 10 minutes the gauge is on 0 no reading at all.

HELP! Please

It really sounds like you have a fixable problem. Did you test the sender and the wiring? Have you checked for broken circuit paths on the combination meter? Grounds?

You have not mentioned the vehicle...there are senders both OEM and after-market for some model years.

The thread is I believe a 3/8" BSSP (British Standard Straight Pipe), they are exactly the same as the Japanese straight pipe. Most hydraulic/pneumatic supply shops can get an adapter from that to 1/8 NPT and perhaps 1/4 NPT. Take it with you and they should be able to match it up. I believe Aeroquip/Eaton makes such a thing, I am not sure if Parker does. Its un-likely the "automotive performance hose" guys have anything that will work.

You could take one of the manifold plugs and drill/tap it to the thread you need. I believe LCE sells the plugs. LCE wouldn't be my choice but it may be simpler for you.
