My truck came with some superwinch SA lockout hub's on my 85 extra cab. Since i got it i have had to tighten them a few times, stud's and all. Does anyone else have these? How do they work? Mine are alright and haven't came lose since i put lock tite to them. But it feel's like they have a buzz to them when dis-engauging/engauging into 4high at a moderate highway speed. Should i source out a set of aisin's? I dont see many on other truck's so i thought i'd ask. Any info on this would be great!

How are you going into 4hi at "moderate highway speeds? You sure that's not the t-case grinding that you're hearing? Shifting into 4wd should've done at very slow speeds, like 5mph or less according Marlin.

Well wait. Aren't i supposed to be able ease it in and out of 2hi and 4hi while driving? Say my engauging and disengauging speed being no more than 25mph? And hub's being locked, meaning i wouldn't be going more than45-50mph to begin with. I have never had any trouble with any of my other trucks. Only one being solid axle though.. But still. The reason im getting at this is because winter is here and i am going to have to use 4wd. I dont know, maybe your supposed to only use 4hi when your hubs are locked and i had no idea?

And no. Not my tcase grinding bud, more of a chatter/buzzing from hub area. More so on the left side.

ok first off i think you referrring to driving at highway speeds, i hope you not going from 2hi to 4hi doing over 25 mph, much less 45, but the short awnser to your question is yes, sorce out set of aisin hubs , there the most bullet proof for our trucks

When i wrote the first post i ment to delete the highway out of that. Meaning only at moderate speed..no one drop's thier truck in 4hi cruisin along on the highway. Not i anyway.... I shoulld have proof read and edited. My bad haha

I wouldant go that far. I agree that the Aisins are the best, but others still work.

So your SW hubs come loose, throw some loctight on the threads and keep trucking, if they actually break, then replace. But unless your wheeling hard on 38s, youll be fine.

Go aisin. Mine have never been apart, or messed with, and work flawlessly. Never come loose, either. And uh.. hubs locked, as long as all tires are rotating at the same speed, (none spinning) I go 2hi-4hi and 4hi-2hi without any noise or resistance. Release throttle, move stick. No clutch. And that's bad how?

If you have no noise, no big deal. But the gear drive T-cases do not have synchros so there is nothing to help the gears align. So if you're going faster than a few MPH, the 4hi gear isn't moving and your trying to make it start moving, so gears grind usually. It's just a good rule of thumb to just barely be moving, or stopped, in order to shift into 4hi/lo.

But if your hubs are locked in, front driveshaft is rotating at same speed as rear. Assuming you're driving straight ahead. Both "halves" of xfer case rotate at same speed, gears are in synchronized rotation, and mesh perfectly. Think rev matching in a semi. Clutch free. It's ok, try it. Just lock your hubs first. I've tried it, accidentally, with out locked hubs. No bueno.

I would agree with that Carl. Didn't think of that step. I can usually do a lot of things in 4wd-lo with the front hubs unlocked, so I didn't think of your method
