Stumped!!!!!!!!!!!

I have been without a vehicle for 3 1/2 months now. My 4 runner is a 1992 with the v6, automatic. I have no idea what happened to it. I started driving down the road went over a speed bump really slowly and it quit. Tried to start it and it would turn but not start. So called a friend he sprayed starting fluid in the air tube and it started, but if I took my foot of the gas pedal it would quit. So, finally got it back to my house. In the mean time I have had several people look at it. Some professional shops. The first shop, the fuel filter, pump, pressure regulator, wires, mass air flow sensor, battery, distributor cap and rotor were all replaced with the same result. Then the next shop said it was my ECU, replaced it, still have the same result. Please help me out. I would really like to get back to driving my vehicle rather than having someone drive me around. Now you start it and push on the gas pedal and it quits. PLEASE HELP ME!!!!

I feel sorry for you.

At this point so many people have had there hands in this .

Do you have any idea of how the shops came up with the reasons for changing all these parts?? What tests were done??

Just what brand parts were used?? Brand New or used parts??

How many miles ??

Last timing Belt change??

At this time it starts and idles fine correct??

stepping on the throttle pedal just gives the engine air not fuel.

I would look in the area of timing .

Vacuum leak allowing in way to much air. could be worn shaft in the throttle body. cracked and dry rotted hoses or put on wrong.

You need to go back to the basics air, fuel , spark and compression at the correct time.

Could very well be it quit going over the speed bump was pure chance.

If it was allowing air to be drawn in through where it bolts to the throttle body.

you are able to test them with a multimeter quite easy.

ok how would I go about testing it to find out if it is bad? Don't know much about a multi meter, either.

You seem to be a little challenged in the mechanical area.

It seems you might have been taken advantage of as your vehicle still does not work.

If you paid for all this labor even this was a bunch of money for something not running.

You can`t keep throwing parts at the problem hoping to get the right one before you run out of money.

One can only go so far chasing problems online.

Without some real world numbers.

Mileage on your engine?

Just how was it figured that all those parts were bad?

It comes down to the basics fuel , spark , compression, and air all happening when they should.

At any time has the Check engine light come on if so what codes were read??

I did all the labor myself. Mileage less than 180000. No check engine light has come on at all. I have no idea how these wetter figured to be the problem. I was listening to others who have worked on their own cars. Guess I'll never do that again.
