Still another 3rd Gen lift question
Alright, I have been looking on this site for a few weeks now and I'm definitly impressed with the knowledge people possess here. So, I need some help. I have a 98 4runner SR5 and I only want a 1.5 to 2.5 lift. I only want to run 32s. I also want to replace my stock struts b/c I can tell they are ready. I dont want to spend a lot either. Is anyone running the 1.5 daystar spacer lift? Should I go spacer in front w/ OME in the rear? I've always heard that spacers in rear create a pretty harsh ride. If I do spacer in front, are there any recomendations on what strut I should get. Keep in mind: I dont do a lot of offroading and I prefer comfort over firmness. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I have to strongly disagree with people that say spacers create a harsher ride. I have OMEs up front with the Cornfed 3" spacers and I was shocked at how smooth I took speedbumps and dips in the road.

You almost have to do spacers up front unless you want to spend a ton of money on adjustable coil overs. The Tundra lift is the way to go to get the max height out of it without going too too expenive. I run 2 1/2" worth of daystar spacers over my stock coils upfront. and the ride is fine, and I have no complaints at all. OME 890s in the rear, 891s if you want a little more lift. It is very worth it to replace the coils in the rear, it will only run a few $ more than spacers too. I am plannin to swap out my stock coils for OME881s, and probably keep at least one or 2 1-1/4" on top of them. If you have a 98 you allready sit 1" higher in the front then most 3rd gens, so you will want to put a diff drop in there too. But like I said, I hardly noticed a ride difference with the spacers up front, the OME 891s ride stiffer in the back then stock, but it is a truck...

a set of Tundra TRD 4WD coils on a set of OME N91s Struts or Tockico Struts would give you 1.5" in the front. for the rear, you could do OME 906 coils w/ OME N86 shocks or your stock shocks or OEM landcruiser shocks.

Spacers can be stiff but others that have spacers and still have good rides is probably b/c they have soft shocks. I have spacers and Bilsteins, and the ride is stiff. Nothing too bad but definitely stiffer than stock.
The good thing about the Bilsteins vs. stock is that rebound on the shock is much quicker so you don't get much "float" on bumps or turns. The bad thing is the quick rebound makes the ride feel stiffer.

If you want to get away a little cheaper, the 881s give aprox 1-1.5" w/o spacers, easier to find, and only about $130 new. Same thing on the rear, the OMEs will be a little less for the same lift. The OME shocks are the best way to go, my buddy has them on a Taco, and they kick some serious ass, the best around. I was stupid and bought KYBs, but OME shocks and struts are the way to go. I

Wow!! That is a great price. Can I get some opinions on OME setups from others who are running this kit. I'll be doing mostly street driving w/ about 10% off road; w/ this in mind are the comfort OME N91SC and the OMEN86SC shocks the way to go with the OME890 rear springs? Or will the firmer shocks and springs be the better choice? Either way both kits will be better than stock right?

x-nay on the front OME springs. get the fron n91s (NOT COMFORT) struts, the rear 891 coils, the rear n86 shocks, and then get phil (strap22) to get you the tundra trd coils for the front instead of the OME 881's. they should be about the same price - a little more - but well worth the price difference. from there, add some top plate spacers for $40 shipped and you'll have 2.0" up front, 2.75" in the rear (great stance) and excellent on-road feel w/ great off-road flex.

Thanks Andy, I'm putting together my shopping list now. You sell the top plate spacers right? Now since my rear will be lifted 2.75" will I need a drop bar?
