Starts and kills immediately

'99 4Runner with 3.4...

The truck cranks, runs at 1,000 RPMs for a split second, and then kills. This happens randomly about 10% of the time I try to start it. The rest of the time, it starts and runs perfectly. No CEL.

What do you think? MAF going bad? Fuel pump? TIA

that's my guess too.

The strange thing is that it runs fine most of the time and I have no codes.

Engines don't just randomly stop working, you need to figure out what the conditions are when it starts then dies as opposed to when it starts then runs fine. The MAF would throw a code as would most electrical interferences. Its hard to help with what little information you provided.

Good advice. Now that I think about it, the problem has NEVER occurred from a cold start. It always happens after returning to restart an already warm engine.

Hope that helps.
