Temp Gauge

I have an 88 4Runner with the 3.0 in it, the temperature gauge has not worked properly since i bought the truck...it either goes right to normal operating temperature or will stay down at cold then spring up to normal temp or just stay at cold the whole time. I have put in a new temp sensor and nothing different. I am wondering how to install and aftermarket temp gauge, i have searched on here for this, but havent really found good instructions. If there is another thread that someone knows about i will check that out, otherwise, someone must have done this before and can send me down the right path!

Yeah, I have the SR5 gauge cluster in this one. The last 4runner i had was the same thing, but the previous owner had already put an aftermarket gauge in...I wish i had checked it out a little more before I sold the truck!

No answer here, but I am having very similar problems w/ my '85 SR5 guages. Intermittent guage/tach readings & I can't find any loose/grounded wires & have replaced the thermostat + sending unit...w/ no change. Maybe one of the electrical gurus will chime in...Sleepr71.
