Question standard or xtra cab?

ok i know this is a highly subjective question but im wondering about it.

for those who have owned and/or driven both is there anyone that had a standard cab and always was saying "man i wish i had the extra room of the xcab" ?

do you say that because you have a feeling of superiority as an xcab owner?

I like the regular cabs better, but that's just me.

I like the tighter turning radius.

No, I'm 5'9.75" and it's never bothered me.

I didn't travel heavy and had a tool box on the back though...

I'm odd... When I want a compact truck, I want a compact truck. And my old reg cab fit the bill. I was driving 150 miles A DAY 4-5 x a week. I just liked the way it fit me... And I could make it handle like it was on rails.

If I wanted more room, I guess if I came across a good deal I'd buy an ex cab, or just get a T-100...

I've found these narrow wheel track 4WD's don't like added wheel base much.

The SWB's are just a 80mph +, 20MPG, enclosed cab, street legal 4wheeler

...with a bed, lol

I miss my truck SO MUCH... Almost cried the other day when I realized I have a frame for it (I was about to throw away)

I have a single cab longbed. I wish it was an xtra cab, long bed though. The turning radius sucks anyways in the longwheelbase xtra cab/shortbed and singlecab/longbed trucks.

I'm 5'11 and have no issues fitting in my truck

I think you've got to see which one suits you better. Obviously the extra cab has more room for passengers or secure storage, but the regular cab has a shorter wheelbase and tighter turning radius. I also seem to remember my buddy telling me that the driveshaft for the extra cab is in two pieces and you loose some horsepower because of the extra u-joint (I've never looked though). The only other thing I can think of is price. The extra cabs are generally a little more expensive. Personally I would go with the extra cab because then I can lock stuff in the cab instead of just leaving it in the bed. Or you could just get the 4runner and take out the back seat. Works great!

If you keep your tools in your rig you want them in the cab and hidden, not in the back under a camper (easier to break into). Just my .02

The main issues with wheel bases when comparing the two is, what will you use the truck for?

For me, a single cab short wheelbase is great because I wheel on a lot of rocks and I constantly see very steep ledges and breakovers while wheeling.
The minimal space sometimes is an issue, but I keep most of my junk in my toolbox.

It would be nice however to have an extended cab only for some storage space inside. Would I still need a toolbox? Hell yes. Would I have a better spot to throw my backpack and extra set of clothes then on the floorboard? Yes.

I know on tacomas the wheelbase difference between regular cab and extended cab is 17.6".
I'm not ready to sacrifice that in order for some measly room.

So, op. You have to ask yourself all of those questions and take then into consideration before making your purchase.

Besides, extended cabs are for chumps with commitments.

extra cab, need room for all my guns and fishing gear.... and dead hookers....

4-door if you have kids/carseat

I loved my old S-10 I had but it was a reg cab and after I got my taco with the EC, I would never go back. turning radius is still great, it's a small truck

really just personal preference and what you use it for.

peow130, I don't think it's a 'long bed' I think it's just either a 'standard' or 'short bed', I know what you mean though, the longer bed is really nice even with the extra cab

am i the first person to have the idea of modifying the back of a standard cab to extend back a little?
not the WHOLE back of the cab! just a section of it below the window, remodeling the bed to accommodate.

useless?
bad idea?
best of both worlds?

hahaha.... the crew cab gull wing doors are hilarious, not to mention the 300 LCD screen TV's....

I think the swing out captain's chair is the best idea on this... I would like to ride in it while someone is driving it! would make a great rig for doing drive by shootings with some slat armor around the seat! lol
