I hate to say it, b/c I just saw one at my local pull-a-part...

But the rear cab space is pretty much useless in those trucks...

You'd think looking at it it'd have a ton or room, but it doesn't.

The floor is VARY high for what I guess is the fuel tank, and it goes back VARY deep... So... It's a stretch to put anything back there...

And a "sleeper" it is not... The only way that can happen is with yer feet hanging out of the windows...

So in "ooh and ahh" factor, they're cool... Would I actually like to own one? No. And I haven't even mentioned the ridiculously long wheel base yet...

yeah thats not at all what i had in mind.

i was thinking a small section below the rear window that was pushed back (into the bed) 6" to a foot. the idea being hand reachable storage space. as in an xcab

I get what you mean. like as in a tool box sized compartment reachable only by the inside and going into the bed. not a bad idea actually. If i had the time and resources and money and all that i would do it to put my backpack, maybe a sub, stuff i dont want stolen, etc. also if you put a topper on it, it will be a nice shelf for things you dont want thrown around.

A cool thing about having the small section below the rear window recessed into the bed would be to have if fit under a toolbox in the back so no one would really even know it was there.

I recently bought a regular cab and my brother owns an ext. cab, so i kinda have a feel for both.

For me, the regular cab is perfect. I usually drive alone and i have a back pack that sits in the passenger seat (for school/work). Also the turn radius on the thing is amazing, and it handles like a dream.

Where as my brother, he needs the ext. cab. He is a film major and he likes to keep the cameras inside the cab out of the weather. He also drives around with 3 or more people.

So it really depends on what you are going to use the truck for. I know what i said is pretty obvious, but hopefully it kinda helps. lol.

EDIT: I didn't look at the date, sorry for the necro post!

Nice resurrection! I am actually in the market right now for a nice little standard cab Taco. I don't have anything against the xtra cabs and they are great for many reasons, especially if it's your only vehicle, but I'm specifically set on a standard cab...
I want a 4 banger to save on gas and standard cabs are lighter so that means more power. They have a tighter turning radius. I don't plan to wheel it anytime soon, but if I choose to in the future, I prefer standard cabs for the reasons that Scuba mentioned earlier in this thread. I have a 4Runner already, so if I need extra room I'll just take that. The standard cab appeals to me because it's small, manueverable, and the 2.7L isn't too bad (powerwise) in a small truck.
