some 00 runners better than others?

I'm not sure where I saw it but I thank I remember seeing that some early production 2000 model 4runners where better than others. I was researching another topic at the time and now I can't seem to find the answer. I seem to recall that some 2000 4R where made before the changes due to the roll over concerns, basically making it like a 99. Anyone know for sure?

The '00s still share all the options that were available for the '99s (i.e. rear locker, manual tranny, auto tranny with multimode on Limited models, etc..), but they went to a little bit shorter coils sometime in '00. Chances are if you're like most of us, you'll ditch the 10 year old stock suspension anyways for better aftermarket coils and shocks so that shouldn't matter.

As Brian said, the biggest differences came between 1999 and 2000.
Also as he said - the best thing to do is ditch the stock suspension and put something better underneath it anyway so it shouldn't matter.

If you plan on going stock with it and not modding the suspension then I would go with the '99 - but I may be a little partial.

Ok what I'm wondering is if 99 coils would do anything for my 00 that was manu. 8/99 or do I already have the taller coils. I need to replace my suspension but not with anything big, and don't want to get smaller coils if I have the taller ones already.

Not all of the '99s had tall coils either so there's really no way to know for sure. Everybody who has the tall coils likes them so I would just get those and you'll be happy. If yours were the talls I'll guarantee they aren't tall anymore after 10 years anyways!

check the color codes of the springs to be sure.

I believe Sonoran Steel has details on what colors mean what years and so on. Then while over there you will be tempted by their array of fine lift products and whoa Nellie then the modding will begin big time.

It's completely possible you already have the tall coils-or not. You don't mention if you have the 16" wheels or just the 15s. Elaborate and keep us going and we will get you on track just hold on to your wallet.

Welcome to this fine forum and we of course would like to see what a west Texas rig looks like. It is now so easy to add a picture here -photo host is no longer needed at all -okay let me add just some random shot from my weekend at Mosquito Pass...sorry too bright the snow was throwing off my settings...

see post #6 for Sonoran reference or please learn the search function-search color codes springs here or even google I bet you will find them.

1" 4crawler lift good choice I just got that myself. Roger Brown knows what he is doing.

Pictures-download them from your camera to your computer then use the "Go Advanced"
button below then "Manage attachments" to enter and "Browse" your computer and select picture and then click on Upload. No photo host is required any longer.

Blue/yellow rear. Did not see it on SS website, but may have over looked it. I have been looking on here. If Green/ red is what I need, I guess it doesn't really matter what the blue/yellow means. I will post a pic when I get on the computer later, don't know think I can do it straight from my Iphone

FAQ section of Sonoran Steel site

quote from the Sonoran site:

We just learned that 2000, 2001 and 2002 all had the same front coils, Identified with the White/Yellow and White/Pink color codes. 1996 and 1997 has the same coils which were just as short. 1998 is second best, but only the 1999 model year had the really tall coils with the full extra wrap.

Here is the link:

http://www.sonoransteel.com/store_co..._liftkits.html

page down down down read up here ---there is more info than a human can possibly digest but most folks agree that Steve S of Sonoran is pretty much the expert in 96-02 4Runner suspension lifting.
