snorkel question

would installing a snorkel on a 3.0 have the same effect as a cold air intake?? it would make sense since it is getting its air away from the engine... or does it take away performance

And you can sorta go through water without sucking it in.... it might leak in, but it won't suck it in.

As long as you're moving it will have somewhat of a cold intake effect. When I put a snorkel on my 4runner with the turbo engine it drastically reduced my intake temps. I went from not being able to touch it to it being cold to the touch.

A snorkel has a couple of benefits.

1) You get cooler air from outside as opposed to the hot air in the engine compartment.
2) If you seal the intake system you can ford deeper water although other things like the alternator still get wet and you run the risk of the fan blades catching water and flexing into the radiator.
3) It looks freaking COOL!

I just did an intake mod on mine to pull cooler air from the cowl area to reduce temps and help gain some millage but it's not really "done" yet. If you have the chance to run a snork then do it.

this is interesting, I know it will bring in cooler air, but.... will it restrict airflow more than a deckplate mod or the amount of air a carb (weber included) is capable of pulling in?
