Shock Recommendations please

1990 Toy P/U 4WD XtraCab 5 Speed

hi,

i need to replace my shocks as at least one of them are leaking. i had the factory shocks on for years and years, and replaced them with a set of monroes—don't remember the model. but after a few years, as mentioned, at least is one is leaking.

any recommendations? should i just get the OEMs? (at least they lasted far longer than the monroes i got.)

i don't do any serious off roading, in fact i try to avoid the off road as much as possible.) nor do i carry campers, gravel, snow plows, etc. no lift kits are any mods to the original suspension.

thanks.

You can get Bilstein Heavy Duty for around $66/shock at www.tirerack.com & they are OUTSTANDING.

I've tried a lot of different shocks & always come back to Bilstein. Last forever, incredible control without being harsh.

I've got Fox 2.0's up front, but.... they take some fab work to get them there. I would recommend them to anyone. The ride quality is incredible.

If you don't off-road I like my Procomp ES3000's. Good road manners and good ride quality. I say this even though my rear springs are shot.

However, they seem a little short when it comes to droop travel for off-road stuff. But I have yet to really confirm this.

For the price though, I am happy with them.

Monroes have a lifetime warranty, why not just have them replace what you have for free if they are leaking.

Limited Lifetime Warranty

Tenneco Inc. warrants qualifying Monroe® products against defects and wear-out when used on private passenger cars and light trucks under normal operating conditions for as long as such original purchaser owns the vehicle on which they were originally installed.

Just my 0.02, but I HATE procomp shocks. Had a set of ES3000's on the front of my truck for a couple months. The ride quality was horendous, and like you were thinking, it did limit my front droop. I replaced them with a set of rancho RS9000, and couldn't be happier.

I'll tell you but my part numbers are for a 4" lift.

Model 5100 series

Note these are new part numbers and replace the older numbers (old numbers) but in researching them it helps to use the old numbers.

Front IFS (4"lift only) part # 24-185745 (F4-BE5-6582-H5)

Rear 4wd pickup (4" lift) part # 24-185752 (F4-BE5-6583-H5)
